How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?
I started out as a helpdesk technician and worked my way through various roles within the IT department. Gaining experience in technologies, customer services, and stakeholder management.
With the rapid pace of development within the IT industry, I feel my expertise is always changing, which is why I love IT. It’s never the same, it’s never stale. There is always a new challenge to accept and conquer.
My focus lately has been on Cloud and DevOps, I have been blogging on those topics with a skew towards Operations for more than 7 years and have been a speaker at several conferences across the world.
What sub-topics are you most passionate about?
I’m passionate about helping others see the possibility of tech and that’s why I try and ensure I volunteer regularly at STEM events.
Who influences you on these topics?
I take my cues and influence from customers. What are they doing, what do they need and what are they trying to achieve. I look to see how I can help them and in turn be an influence on them.
What do you think the future holds in this space?
Hybrid is a trend that I see taking hold, the Cloud providers are building and leaning into building new hybrid services and it’s exciting to see these new services emerge. The key though will be finding the right cloud engineers who can design, implement and manage hybrid scenarios. It’s an interesting challenge to have and I’m excited to see engineers grow in this area and rise to this challenge.
