Principal Data Scientist, Data Science Fellow, and Executive Advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton
I am currently the Principal Data Scientist, Data Science Fellow, and Executive Advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton. I have been with the company since 2015. Before that I was a Professor of Astrophysics and Computational Science at George Mason University for 12 years and at NASA for nearly 20 years. I have been working with data systems for over 35 years, with a special attention to machine learning and data science since 1998. I am a global invited speaker at data science and AI conferences, where I give special attention to promoting data literacy for all.
How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?
I have a PhD in astronomy. I have worked with data and modeling my entire career, including in my formal education. I spent 20 years working on data systems activities at NASA, initially as staff scientist on the Hubble Space Telescope project. I then spent 12 years teaching data science at a university. I have worked on data science and machine research projects since the 1990’s. The combination of teaching, research, mentoring, writing, and public speaking has boosted my own knowledge and my influence.
What topic areas are you most passionate about?
Data literacy. Data science for all. Machine learning. Internet of things. The Experience Economy. Modeling and simulation of complex systems.
