Brian is the Founder/CEO of Small Business Edge and Brian Moran & Associates. They do two things very well: They help business owners run better, more productive companies and help marketers better target all segments within the small to midsize business market. If they don't know the answer to a question, someone in their network does.

Brian has recently featured in Onalytica's Who's Who in The Future of Work report.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

I’ve spent 30 years in the Small to Midsize Business market with 20+ years at magazines and newspapers (WSJ, Inc., Entrepreneur, and my own publishing company). I’ve met and collaborated with top experts in gov’t, academia, small business organisations, and entrepreneurs around the world.

What sub-topics are you most passionate about?

I love helping start-up businesses because they have a beginner’s mind. They are hungry for knowledge about running and growing their companies, and they want to avoid the mistakes that could derail their business. I also enjoy helping business owners address the weaknesses in their companies. We solidify those areas and make their foundations stronger.

Who influences you within these topics?

I am always learning something when I speak to business owners, whether it’s the obstacles they face or the solutions they create to address the obstacles.

What do you think the future holds in this space?

Everything! When you look back on past downturns in the market–the Great Recession, the Internet Bubble, etc…small business owners and entrepreneurs were the market segments that drove new innovations and helped get our economy back on solid ground. Where will the next breakthrough technology come from? An entrepreneur!

What brands are leading the way in this space?

Brands that have been committed to the SMB space for decades continue to lead the way–the credit card companies (Mastercard, Amex, Visa), Telecom (AT&T, Verizon), UPS/FedEx/Pitney Bowes, SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Google, Amazon, Apple, Financial Services, Sage, Barclays Bank, and more.

I have done and can do podcasts, webinars, whitepaper, speaking opportunities, product innovation, video interviews. I can’t think of any content channel or platform that I haven’t used to connect with any segment of the SMB space.

What are your passions outside of work?

Sports, Reading, Travel, Music, Philosophy, and Life.
