Chuck Brooks a globally recognized thought leader for Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies. He is President of Brooks Consulting International and an Adjunct Faculty at Georgetown University in the Graduate Applied Intelligence Program. How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

As a senior executive in government relations, marketing, and management, I have unique experience from service in the public sector, academia, and industry that have molded my expertise. I have served in executive roles for top public companies, including General Dynamics Mission Systems (Principal Strategist For Cybersecurity), Xerox (Vice President homeland Security, SRA (Vice President Government Relations), Sutherland (Vice President Marketing), and Rapiscan (Vice President R & D). In government, I received two senior Presidential appointments. Under President George W. Bush Chuck was appointed to The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the first Legislative Director of The Science & Technology Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security. I was also was appointed as Special Assistant to the Director of Voice of America under President Reagan. I served as a top Advisor to the late Senator Arlen Specter on Capitol Hill covering security and technology issues on Capitol Hill. In local government I also worked as an Auxiliary Police officer for Arlington, Virginia. In academia, I am Adjunct Faculty at Georgetown University’s Applied Intelligence Program and graduate Cybersecurity Programs where I teach courses on risk management, homeland security, and cybersecurity. I was an Adjunct Faculty Member at Johns Hopkins University where I taught a graduate course on homeland security for two years. I have an MA in International relations from the University of Chicago, a BA in Political Science from DePauw University, and a Certificate in International Law from The Hague Academy of International Law.

How would you describe your offline influence?

My company, Brooks Consulting International provides Government Relations & Marketing firm providing Digital Branding, Strategic Partnering, Business Development and Subject Matter Expertise, Strategy, and Thought Leadership in the areas of Cybersecurity, Emerging Tech, and Homeland Security. My thought leadership writings on cybersecurity and emerging tech have helped shape the public policy debate as he is respected in industry, in the Federal Government, academia, and on Capitol Hill. I have published over 180 articles and have been a featured author in technology and cybersecurity blogs by IBM, AT&T, Cylance, and a force in discussing, advocating, promoting cybersecurity issues across digital media, at events, in professional forums, and with a variety of public policy organizations. I have published in FORBES, Huffington Post, InformationWeek, MIT Sloan Blog, Computerworld, Federal Times, NextGov, Government Security News, Cygnus Security Media, Homeland Security Today (Visiting Editor), The Hill, Biometric Update, Bizcatalyst360, IT Security Planet, Christian Science Monitor. I have also served as a keynote speaker and panelist for dozens of events

What’s your best source of information for getting ahead of a story?

I regularly attend an speak at conferences which I find a great source for information sharing. I also read MIT technology Review, FORBES, Homeland Security Today, The Hill, Wall Street Journal, and industry-centric publications. I follow posts on both LinkedIn and Twitter on topics that interest me most.

What are your passions outside of work?

I like travel. I am still active in weightlifting, I am a former power lifting champion from Virginia. I am also a Foodie.

I am Ambassador for The Cybersecurity Alliance, and Executive Advisor for Cybersecurity to PCi Tec,My professional industry affiliations include being a member of the August USA Chapter of EC-Council Global Advisory Board for TVM (Threat and Vulnerability Management), EC-Council is the world’s largest body in cybersecurity training and certifications. He is on the MIT Technology Review Advisory Global Panel, a member of The AFCEA Cybersecurity Committee, and as member of the Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Working Group. Other activities include being a Subject Matter Expert to The Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Center (HDIAC), a Department of Defense (DoD) sponsored organization through the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), as a featured presenter at USTRANSCOM on cybersecurity threats to transportation, as a featured presenter to the FBI and the National Academy of Sciences on Life Sciences Cybersecurity. I am a Director at the Quantum Security Alliance, and a member of the CyberAvengers, a group that promotes safe Cyber-hygiene. I was also appointed as a Technology Partner Advisor to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
