Bio:Dr. Hassan Rashidi is an engineer, keynote speaker, and advisor at DrRashidi.com. He provides industries, universities, and people with knowledge and insights on advances, innovations, and trends in engineering and technology as well as their impact on industry and society. He also provides knowledge and insights on product development, manufacturing, optimisation, process improvement, and lean manufacturing. Dr. Rashidi was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his PhD in Mechanical and Control Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?
I love engineering. I think engineering is all about turning ideas into reality, effectively and efficiently. Most of the everyday devices and machines we use are the products of engineering. This includes devices and machines such as refrigerators, air conditioning systems, washing machines, coffee making machines, computers, smart phones, automobiles, airplanes, drones, solar panels, gym equipment, 3D printing machines, medical wearable devices, medical implants, pacemakers, microscopes, sonography devices, electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) equipment, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, robots, etc. I am so passionate about advances, innovations, and trends in science, engineering, and technology (SET).
What sub-topics are you most passionate about?
Nanotechnology, Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Human Factors and Ergonomics, Innovation, and The Impact of Engineering and Technology on Society.
Who influences you within these topics?
Researchers in both academia and industry who see the big picture of what they do in terms of improving the society, quality of life, health, and environment.
What challenges are brands facing in this space?
Main challenges include keeping up with ever increasing customer demands for better products, modernising manufacturing centers, establishing industry 4.0 standards, operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) convergence, attracting quality talent, effective use of big data and data analytics, leveraging predictive analytics using artificial intelligence (AI), realising the applications of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), effective implementation of internet of things (IoT) and industrial internet of things (IIoT), cybersecurity, and being future-ready.
What do you think the future holds in this space?
Demand for customised and personalised products will continue to grow. Manufacturing will leverage predictive data analytics and AI to improve efficiency and customer value. Processes will be increasingly automated. Autonomous mobile robots will be increasingly used. Advanced sensors and AI will make robots more and more intelligent. Advances and innovations in mechanical design will dramatically improve the dexterity, agility, and flexibility of robots. Collaborative robots (Cobots) will be used more and more. The growing use of cobots will enable humans to focus more on creative and innovative tasks. Projects will be increasingly multidisciplinary, and cross-functional abilities will be more and more important. Metal additive manufacturing will be increasingly adopted by different industries. The use of digital platforms, data analytics, cloud and edge technologies, AI, VR, and AR will greatly improve quality control and productivity. Generative design will take the product development and product design to the next level of optimisation. Design for IoT, design for IIoT, and design for additive manufacturing will be increasingly important.
What brands are leading the way in this space?
If a brand wanted to work with you, which activities would you be most interested in collaborating on?
Product Innovation, Speaking, Seminars, Webinars, Video Interviews, Podcasts, and Panel Discussions.
What are your passions outside of work?
I enjoy nature, walking, spending time with people, traveling, and thinking.
