How did you get to become an expert in Edtech?
I have been a French Second Language teacher for most of my 32 year teaching career. About 10 years ago I became interested in exploring ways that technology can be used to enhance the foreign language class. When I joined Twitter in 2011 my Edtech learning curve really took off. So many teachers sharing so many great ideas and resources!
What areas of Edtech are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about ways that students can use technology to express their voice and be creative. I am also an avid sketchnoter and I create drawings on my iPad, many which are relevant to education and technology.
Which Edtech influencers influence you?
Most of the women on Onalytica’s top 100 #EdTech Influencers list! Particularly Vicki Davis, who has been such a big supporter of me and other teachers. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. In sketchnoting, Karen Bosch was my mentor when I got started about 3 years ago and has been a huge supporter of my work.
Outside of Edtech who else influences you?
This year I have been in awe of the women who have stood up and said “Enough is enough” with the #MeToo movement.
What are going to be the key developments in the industry in the next 12 months?
I hope that all educational institutions will embrace Inquiry-based learning as an integral part of all curriculi. Students need to acquire critical thinking and problem solving skills to achieve success in today’s workforce and to solve the “Wicked problems” their generation will face.
If a brand wanted to work with you, what activities would you be most interested in collaborating on?
I am open to any type of collaboration!
