Elias Khnaser

Elias Khnaser is an internationally recognized thought leader in the areas of cloud computing and digital disruption. Until recently, Elias was a research vice president at Gartner, where he spent seven years focusing on private, hybrid, and public cloud computing. Today, Elias continues to conduct research and advise and engage customers and vendors on all aspects of cloud, edge, and data center transformation strategies. He is well-known for his ability to simplify complex technical concepts and explain how IT aligns with and forwards business goals.
Elias has written and co-authored six books, dozens of online video training courses, and hundreds of articles for Virtualization Review Magazine, InformationWeek, and Forbes. He is a frequent keynote speaker at leading technology conferences like Gartner Catalyst, IOCS, Symposium, Citrix Synergy, and others).
He publishes weekly on his YouTube channel and co-hosts “It Depends with Eli and Sanjeev,” a biweekly podcast dedicated to cloud, data & analytics, and technology trends.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?
I am where I am because of my hard work and experience. I began in 1998 with an MCSE certification and a Windows Administrator job. I wanted to desperately stand out among a sea of Microsoft-certified professionals. It was my second job where I was introduced to Citrix and I fell in love with the technology and began to study it in depth. I later wrote several books on Citrix. Fast forward some years and I was among the first to adopt VMware ESX in the enterprise when no one believed in virtualization and I also wrote several books on it. in 2013-2014 I pivoted to public cloud with AWS and later joined Gartner where I spent 7 years researching public cloud, multi-cloud, and hybrid cloud.
What do you think the future holds in this space?
The future is exciting. We are on the cusp of Web 3.0 where the internet will become executable. A distributed network of applications and services built primarily but not exclusively on blockchain. In the next 3 years 5G, AI/ML, Edge computing, continued cloud innovation, quantum computing and the metaverse will really change the way we view and do everything. We are definitely living through exciting times and every evolving time in tech.
