Lee Atchison is a recognized thought leader in cloud computing and application modernization. With more than three decades of experience in product development, architecting, scaling, and modernization, Lee has worked at Amazon, Amazon Web Services (AWS), New Relic, and other modern application organizations.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

I’ve been in software engineering since 1987, and have over 30+ years of experience working at several startups, along with larger companies such as Hewlett Packard, Amazon.com/AWS, and New Relic.

Application complexity, application scaling, high availability, security, product architecture/architects, organization structure for app success.

Who influences you within these topics?

AWS strategies and direction. Technology leaders I work with, such as Ken Gavranovic and Lloyd Taylor. Writings of other thought leaders (wide spectrum).

Huge increase in AI to assist in building and testing applications.
Tooling improvements to reduce complexity and increase security.

I work with brands to write thought leadership articles, write topical books, participate in podcasts and webinars, and speak internally to teams or at shows. I also work with engineering departments and leadership teams to review technical plans and architectural decisions and assist those who need help growing in those areas.

What are your passions outside of work?

I love to hike and explore the Pacific Northwest. I fly R/C gliders. I build model railroads and hobby-level electronics.
