Karl is a member of the Corporate Development and Strategy Team in the Office of the CEO at SAP SE in Germany. In his twenty-five year career at large and small software companies, he has successfully completed over thirty acquisitions and successful merger integrations as well as a few divestitures. He is a speaker, author and advisor on software and platform business models, software ecosystems and merger automation and he runs workshops and trainings on digital M&A and merger integration.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

Being an economist and information scientist by education, I am perfectly equipped to be successful in the tech industry. Over twenty years, I have been working on bringing together successful software companies in strategic partnerships and mergers and acquisitions.

What sub-topics are you most passionate about?

I believe the future of M&A is digital. Platforms and digital tools will rule markets, but will also make life easier in the M&A process. So I push the topic of merger automation in parallel, I am pushing the topic of software ecosystems and business platforms.

What challenges are brands facing in this space?

Merger automation, tools for the M&A process: M&A professionals are not techies, they are always busy and don’t have time to search for tools. They just don’t know how tech can help in their work.
