Bio:

Mike Dano is Light Reading's Editorial Director, 5G & Mobile Strategies. He has covered the wireless industry as a journalist for almost two decades, first at RCR Wireless News and then at FierceWireless and recalls once writing a story about the transition from black and white to colour screens on cell phones.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

I’ve been covering the wireless industry as a journalist for 20 years now.

What topic areas are you most passionate about?

I cover 5G heavily but I’m interested in a lot of different telecom topics from satellites to private wireless networks.

Which influencers influence you within those key topics?

I try to listen very carefully to the executives with the purse strings — the people at the companies that are spending the big bucks. They’re the ones influencing what matters.

Outside of key topics, who else influences you?

I love to read everything my peers write. I also work with a great bunch of people at Light Reading.

How would you describe your offline influence?

I routinely speak with people in the telecom industry in a variety of venues, and I enjoy speaking, moderating and doing podcasts.

What’s your best source of information for getting ahead of a story? What resource do you use to stay ahead of the trend?

As a journalist, my main job is making sure I get the story. And I won’t tell you how I do that!

If a brand wanted to work with you, which activities would you be most interested in collaborating on?

I’m happy to do interviews, podcasts and other things that help to raise my profile and the Light Reading brand.

Which non-paid activities would you be keen to take part in if the opportunity raised your profile or delivered value to your audience?

I would be happy to provide comments for news articles or speak in events, podcasts, online chats or webinars. I’m also comfortable handling video content.

What are your passions outside of work?

Trying to ignore my kids, rock climbing, mountain biking and traveling.

What would be the best way for a brand to contact you?

By email.
