Antonio Grasso, who started out as a developer and software architect in the IT industry, has led large projects for the Italian government. Antonio is the founder and CEO of Digital Business Innovation, an Italian startup. He has over 35 years’ worth of experience in the field, handling numerous real-life projects in the field of information technology for both Enterprise and Public sectors. Antonio, in his capacity as an influencer, has engaged with large, multinational companies across the globe, and been interviewed extensively.

How did you get to become an expert in data science?

I do not consider myself a Data Science expert, simply I like the intersection of fields that data science express: IT, Math and Statistics. I’m hugely passionate about those topics.

After 30 years of IT projects, 8 years ago I was lucky to collaborate with big US financial companies to analyze market data to create an intelligent, automated trading system for the Nyse and Nasdaq markets; there I discovered that the data can talk and can suggest decisions if you listen to it using a scientific approach. That is my Data Science passion.

What areas of data science are you most passionate about?

The scientific method to analyze a phenomena using a fastidious approach and analytic way to extract decisions from data. I love that, I’m a data scientist in my mind every day!

Which data science influencers influence you?

I admire Kirk Borne and I love Bill Schmarzo

Outside of data science who else influences you?

Rob Van Kranenburg was my ignition starter on Twitter. Mike Quindazzi and Michael Fisher  inspire me every day with the great content and the great friendship we share in the real life, outside Twitter.

Let me say that I love our huge influencer community on Twitter, lovely women in tech, great experts and great everyday friends.

How would you describe your offline influence?

I’m a startup mentor and I manage many local projects; I love bringing ideas to success. I speak at conferences trying to motivate the audience with inspirational speeches. I write articles for Italian newspapers and business publications. Every time I talk or write, I put the focus on the human being at center of our world; in my view, innovation needs to be considered as a tool and as a service for people and not as a human hybrid substitution, an open and inclusive innovation for a better future. I like to influence other people with this vision and I’m truly convinced that we can build a Better Digital World.

What are going to be the key developments in the industry in the next 12 months?

The innovation’s fervid crucible is forging amazing technologies that can change our world forever. I think in the short term we will appreciate the intersection of AI with IoT and Analytics to move decisions on the Edge and save on data transfer and data storage. Intelligent Edge-Analytics for the Internet of Things.

If a brand wanted to work with you, what activities would you be most interested in collaborating on?

I love to work with brands that let me express myself in events, content curation and content sharing, speaking, articles, whitepaper and strategic advising on real project in team with internal people.

The money is not the first thing, as first I need to trust in the organization and the value proposition, then I like to be involved in creating the influencer framework and being a part of the organizational team, well integrated and well accepted. This is a good way to achieve a great result together!

What would be the best way for a brand to contact you?

Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook channels are a good way to contact me
