Bio:

Jos is an independent consultant and analyst, providing advice to public and private sectors on digital and IT strategies, business risk, marketing and customer service. He also undertakes research for universities and professional internationally, on a wide range of technology and digital topics.

He is a past president of the British Computer Society and also of the Society of Innovation, Technology and Management (Socitm), and for over a decade he was CIO and CDO for Hampshire County Council.

Jos chairs the Open University School of Computing Industrial Board and is a non-Exec for the Department of International Trade on the Risk and Audit Committee covering cyber, digital and information risk. He is also a non-Exec Director for Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.

How did you get to become an expert in your key topics?

Broad experience across public and probate sectors, non-exec positions, experience CDO and CIO, recruitment and consultancy assignments.

What topic areas are you most passionate about?

Digital Government (and the problems that prevent this).

Which influencers influence you within those key topics?

Many – too many to list!

Outside of key topics, who else influences you?

Books, research, blogs – I read avidly and anything. Diversity in information consumption is the key to success.

How would you describe your offline influence?

Speaker, facilitator, pundit, advisor, researcher, published articles, networking.

Anything – but I only work where I can clearly add significant value.

What’s your best source of information for getting ahead of a story?

Social media and contacts.

Over 200 businesses and public bodies in the UK and beyond. work has cover USA, Canada, New Zealand, parts so Asia, as well as the EU.

Which non-paid activities would you be keen to take part in if the opportunity raised your profile or delivered value to your audience?

I am keen to co-create long form content, provide a quote for content or news article, share / create a social post, speak at or attend an event, participate in a podcast, webinar or an online chat, write a product review.

What are your passions outside of work?

Music (I play in the City of Southampton Orchestra), sport (running especially), wildlife (moths, birds, walking).
